What you’ll learn

Do you require access to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) to complete your Dangerous Goods training? The seven (7) day access option gives you access to the IMDG code while you complete your training.

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) is a vital resource in ensuring you have the information you need to safely and efficiently prepare, process, accept and transport dangerous goods by sea where and when you need it.

Immediate access, and full search functionalities make maintaining compliance with the code quick and easy for all ship operators, packers, freight forwarders and shippers.

Which edition is right for you?

For students undergoing training and in need of access to IMDG Code, we offer three convenient options:

  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) (seven-day access)
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) (fourteen-day access)
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG)

These options will provide you with the latest regulations on shipping and handling dangerous goods by sea.

The seven-day and thirty-day versions are for students that only require the publication to complete the course, while the full-access version is for complete access to the publication for the validity of the code (a new edition is released every 2 years). Students will purchase this publication to be used throughout the year in their day-to-day work.

It’s crucial to carefully consider which edition best aligns with your specific needs.

We do not provide refunds or partial refunds for instances of “change of mind” or transfers between editions. Hence, we encourage you to make an informed decision before selecting the access plan that suits you best.

Note – access is limited to 7 days from the date you access the online code.

The IMDG Code is updated every two years in a standard amendment cycle. In the fourth quarter of an even-number year a new edition of the Code is published, incorporating amendments added by the IMO.

On January 1 of the following odd-number year voluntary compliance with the new edition begins. This is a transition year as the regulations of the previous year also remain valid.

On January 1 of the following even-numbered year the new edition comes into force. Compliance with its regulations is mandatory, making the previous edition obsolete.

What’s inside the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG)?

The IMDG Code is a two-volume publication, divided into seven parts. It lays down basic principles on the transport of Dangerous Goods by sea, and contains detailed recommendations for individual substances, materials and articles. It also includes several recommendations for good operational practice, including advice on terminology, packing, labelling, stowage, segregation and handling, and emergency response action.

Volume 1 of the Code contains Parts 1, 2, 4 through 7.

Volume 2 of the Code contains Part 3, Appendices A and B, and the Index.

Who is this course for?

Access to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) is required while you are undertaking the learning and assessments parts of the ‘Initial’ and ‘Recurrent’ dangerous goods by sea certifications offered by the Academy.
